Cost saving and improved transparency thanks to RBE Plus User/Role Analysis

(22.08.06)
Wuerzburg/Germany. The RBE Plus Role Analyzer from IBIS Prof. Thome AG has been extended with user-specific analyses and enhanced with intelligent and practical evaluations. By means of the new “RBE Plus User/Role Analysis” it is now possible to investigate user activities, au-thorisations, and role assignments. This enhanced capability has been available since May 2006, and will enable active license management or causation-effective cost distributions.

Innovations from IBIS Prof. Thome AG enable SAP customers to utilize a key indicators report as well as detailed evaluations as part of Role Analysis. The report quantitatively und qualitatively processes and summarises the core data on use and assignment classification of individual and composite roles. By means of a role que-ry database, the customer also has the possibility of analysing individual problems. The three levels, key indicators, detail evaluations, as well as individual investiga-tions, enable an integrated analysis of roles.

Furthermore, IBIS Prof. Thome AG recognised at an early stage the requirement for extended user-related evaluations in projects with customers and partners, and therefore to the more detailed Role Analysis was added a User Profile Analysis which also takes into account the protection of employee-related data.

As well as “Usage” and “Efficiency” Analysis, the User Profile Analysis also includes the “Business Profile” and “Security Checks” components.

Starting from an analysis of the activities and authorisations in the “Usage Analysis”, which allows a comprehensive overview into the actual use of your system taking into account existing system authorisations, e.g.:
  • “Which users were active during the period of analysis, or were inactive in spite of authorisation, or
  • have never signed on to the system?”,
the “User Profile Analysis” allows a user-related view which through anonymity can conform to the data protection guidelines.

The use of “Security Checks” allows investigation of selected critical activities and authorisations taking into account the requirements of internal financial standards or of the “Sarbanes-Oxley Act”, and answers questions on the use of these activities. For example, this analysis enables a check on the people who carry out critical transaction combinations (segregation of duties).

By means of the “Business Profile” a business application-specific evaluation of the activities is carried out. The assignment of users to departments such as Accounting or Purchasing takes place on the basis of their actual transaction and report uti- lisation. This makes it possible for existing authorisations and requirements of cur- rent use to be compared, and adaptations to be made if required.

On the other hand, the “Efficiency Analysis” makes a contribution to checking the extent to which single processes and transactions are being used efficiently. Not only the rates of change per posting, but also the relationships between dialogue steps and postings or between dialogue steps and number of documents are eva- luated.

“Only when you can make the connection between the actual activities of your users and existing authorisation levels, can you recognise requirements and take the ne-cessary action,” says Dr. Wolfgang Walz, CFO of IBIS Prof. Thome AG.

IBIS Prof. Thome AG is currently presenting today’s advances and the functions of RBE Plus, in particular the RBE Plus User/Role Analysis at its booths at “SAP TechEd 2006” in Las Vegas (USA), “DSAG Annual Congress 2006” in Leipzig (Germany), and “Managing SAP Projects 2006” in Orlando (USA). SAP customers are invited to live demos at these events.
